The teenager was stopped at 6:30 p.m. near West Simpson Ave, Lt. Christopher Guenther said. An investigation led to the recovery of a loaded, defaced handgun with a high-capacity magazine, Guenther said.
The teenager was charged as a juvenile with multiple weapons charges, including second-degree possession of a handgun. He was remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court appearance, Guenther said.
